1.3.1 CUSTOMS REQUIREMENTS

1.3.1.1 Incoming passengers
|

Application of dual channel (Red/Green Line) clearance operation:
Entry passengers who carry goods that should be declared are required to fill in a "Customs Declaration" form and proceed to the "Goods to Declare Counter" (Red Line) for inspection. If there is no article to declare, passengers can have direct passage by showing passport though the "Nothing to Declare Counter" (Green Line) without a declaration form. (Please consult with Customs officer before clearance, if you have any queries.)

Passengers bringing merchandise that are deemed to be outside the range of personal baggage must declare and pay duty to the customs.

Samples of merchandise accompanying a passenger as baggage must be declared as such. A description of the general character of the samples and their total value must be given.

Gold: Passengers who carry gold with a total value of more than US$20,000 shall apply to the Bureau of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Economic Affairs for an import permit and go through customs clearance procedures. If not declared or a false declaration, the portion of Gold in excess of US$20,000 or the amount of value that is not declared shall be subject to fine.

Foreign Currencies: Passengers may bring in any amount of foreign currencies, but total amount over US$10,000 must declare to the Customs upon arrival. If not declared or a false declaration, the portion of foreign currencies in excess of US$10,000 (or its equivalent in other foreign currency) or the amount of cash that is not declared shall be subject to confiscation.

New Taiwan Currency: Passengers may bring in no more than NT$100,000 into Taiwan. If the amount is more than the designated limit, the passenger shall apply for a permit from the Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in advance before arrival and submit the permit to the Customs for Clearance. If not declared or a false declaration, the portion of New Taiwan Currency in excess of NT$100,000 or the amount of cash that is not declared shall be subject to confiscation.

Negotiable Securities in bearer form with face value more than US$10,000 (or its equivalent) in aggregate. If not declared or a false declaration, the portion of face value in excess of US$10,000 or the amount of face value that is not declared shall be subject to fine. The term "securities" is defined as traveler’s checks, other types of checks, promissory notes, bills of exchange, or other forms of securities. There is no limitation on the amount carried after the completion of declaration.

Items which might be used for the purpose of money laundering: The term "Items which might be used for the purpose of money laundering" is defined as Diamonds, Precious stones and/or Platinum which are not for personal use. Passengers who carry above said items with a total value of more than NT$500,000 (or its equivalent) must declare to the Customs upon arrival. If the total value is more than US$20,000 shall apply to the Bureau of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Economic Affairs for an import permit and go through customs clearance procedures. If not declared or a false declaration, the portion of value in excess of NT$500,000 or the amount of value that is not declared shall be subject to fine.

1.3.1.2 Departure passengers

The following are designated limits of gold, foreign currencies, New Taiwan Currency, Negotiable Securities and items which might be used for the purpose of money laundering within which a passenger is allowed to carry on his/her departure from Taiwan:

Gold: Passengers who carry gold with a total value of more than US$20,000 shall apply to the Bureau of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Economic Affairs for an export permit and go through customs clearance procedures. If not declared or a false declaration, the portion of face value in excess of US$20,000 or the amount of value that is not declared shall be subject to fine.

Foreign Currencies: Total amount over US$10,000 (or its equivalent in other foreign currency) shall be declared to and recorded by the Customs.

Note:

Each passenger shall register at the customs service centers in the departure hall when carrying Foreign currencies, New Taiwan Currency, Negotiable Securities or Items which might be used for the purpose of money laundering in excess of the said amount upon departure from Taiwan.

Passengers who carry gold or Items which might be used for the purpose of money laundering with a total value of more than US$20,000 (or its equivalent) must fill out an export declaration and submit to the Customs for clearance procedures upon departure.

Copies of video (audio) compact disks, computer software, books, and records etc. reproduced without authorization from the original sources (except for personal use) are prohibited. Offenders shall be liable to punishment under the law.

1.3.2 IMMIGRATION REQUIREMENTS

Entry

A foreign passenger who:

Is eligible for visa exemption program must present a valid passport or travel document.

Is in possession of Permanent Resident Certificate issued by the Republic of China must present a valid passport (or travel document) and the Certificate.

Is in possession of Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) and Re-entry Permit issued by the Republic of China must present a valid passport (or travel document), the ARC and the Permit.

Other foreign passengers must present a valid passport (or travel document) and visa.

Transit
Transiting passenger without entry plan doesn't need to apply an entry permit.

1.3.2.2 Republic of China Nationals
|

Entry
-
Nationals with registered permanent residence in the Taiwan Area must present a valid Republic of China passport which has ID number on it. When the passport is expired or lost, the holder should obtain an Entry Certificate from the service branch of Immigration Office, National Police Agency, at the airport and submit the certificate to the Passport and Visa Inspection.

Nationals without registered permanent residence in the Taiwan Area must present a valid Republic of China passport and a valid Entry Permit issued by the Republic of China Government.

Transit
A national who intends to transit in the international airport and connect to another flight needs not apply for a visa.

Departure
Nationals shall follow the immigration regulations of the destination countries and prepare the necessary travel documents.

Foreign crew members of scheduled airlines may enter the Republic of China in accordance with the following regulations:

Those working at foreign aircraft may, on the strength of their passports, enter the airports of the Republic of China. They are, however, required to leave by the same aircraft, and during their stay they shall remain within the boundaries of the airport unless they have been granted temporary stay permits by the Passport and Visa Inspection at the airport.

Those granted temporary stay permits should leave by any one of their own departure aircraft within 24 hours after their entry or by the next departure aircraft of their own airlines if no flight is available within 24 hours.

They should return their temporary stay permits to the Passport and Visa Inspection upon their departure.

1.3.3 PUBLIC HEALTH REQUIREMENTS
|
All entry passengers and crew members may enter the Republic of China in accordance with the following regulations:

Imported fishery products, with the exception of products that are dried, canned or vacuum-packed and properly labeled, shall be imported by cargo shipment.

All arriving travelers and crew members must follow border quarantine measures, including fever screening, filling out communicable disease survey forms, health evaluation, or patient transfer to hospital for medical attention.

If a traveler (or crew member) is suspected to suffer from a communicable disease on the aircraft, designated crew members must follow the "Operational Principles of Handling Travelers or Crew Members Suspected of Suffering from a Communicable Disease on the Aircraft".
